Official Club calendar 2025 – June photo

During 2025 we are presenting the image from the Club calendar in the newsletter for that month, with some details about the picture, including when and where the photo was taken. All the photos in the calendar were taken by Club members.

For June we chose this evocative photo of BBMF Lancaster PA474 parked in front of the Flight’s hangar at Coningsby beyond the special BBMF gate. It was taken by Club member Karen Shortland and in the 2025 Club calendar we titled it “Gateway to the past”.

Karen tells us: "My photo of the Lancaster was taken on the 2021 Members’ Day. I took the photo on my Samsung A52s mobile phone. When I was leaving the site at the end of the day, I had a chance to wander around to the other side of the aircraft, and I particularly wanted to try and capture a photograph with the Memorial Flight gate in shot with the Lancaster in the background, as I felt that it really represented the flight for me. The sun was just going down and it was reflecting nicely on the underside of the wings, catching some of the rivet details as well.”
