BBMF Engineering Warrant Officer Carol Russell retires
The BBMF Engineering Warrant Officer, Carol Russell, has left the Flight on her retirement from the RAF after 36 years of service.
Carol joined the RAF as an avionics technician in 1990 and has been in post as the BBMF Warrant Officer for the last five years, since November 2020. In a recent interview earlier this year Carol said that she was immensely proud to have been an engineer in the RAF for thirty-six years. She went on to say, “To have my final tour here, on the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, leading an amazing team of people who look after these aircraft, that’s the icing on the cake.”
In keeping with the tradition on the retirement of warrant officers from the RAF, Carol was presented with a bowler hat marking the beginning of life as a civilian and, in time honoured fashion, she was escorted from the Station by her BBMF colleagues, in her case being towed on a trolley behind an aircraft tractor.
